Troubleshooting Memo

Something not working the way you expect? This guide covers the most common issues and how to fix them quickly.

"Reveal Password" Button Does Nothing

Symptom: You click the eye icon or "Reveal" button on a Password memo, but nothing happens or you see an error.

Possible causes and fixes:

  • Session expired — Refresh the page and log back in, then try again.
  • Insufficient permissions — You need at least READ access to the circle this board belongs to. Ask your workspace admin to confirm your role.
  • Browser issue — Try a hard refresh (Ctrl+Shift+R on Windows/Linux, Cmd+Shift+R on Mac) or a different browser.

Quick Memo Creates a Note in the Wrong Board

Symptom: You use Quick Memo and the note appears on a board you didn't intend.

Fix: Quick Memo always creates notes on your default board. To change where Quick Memos land:

  1. Go to Memo in the sidebar.
  2. Open the board you want to use as your default.
  3. Click the board menu (three dots) and select Set as Default.

From that point on, all Quick Memos will go to the newly selected default board.

Cannot Create a New Board

Symptom: The "New Board" button is missing or greyed out, or you see a permissions error after submitting.

Fix: Creating a board requires WRITE permission on the active circle. If you are a read-only member, you will not be able to create boards. Contact your workspace admin to have your role upgraded.

File Upload Fails

Symptom: You try to attach a file to a memo but the upload fails or shows an error.

Common causes:

| Cause | Fix | |-------|-----| | File is larger than 50 MB | Compress the file or split it before uploading | | Unstable internet connection | Check your connection and try again | | Session has expired | Refresh the page, log back in, and retry the upload |

If none of the above apply, try a different file format or contact your administrator.

A Board Is Not Showing Up

Symptom: You know a board exists but you cannot see it in the Memo section.

Fix: Boards belong to a specific circle (workspace). If the board was created in a circle that is not your currently active one, it will not be visible.

  • Check the circle selector in the top navigation and switch to the correct workspace.
  • If you still cannot see the board, you may not be a member of that circle. Ask the board owner to invite you.

Password Memo Shows Eight Bullet Points

Symptom: A Password memo always displays exactly eight dots (••••••••), regardless of how long the actual password is.

This is intentional. The password is stored encrypted and is never shown in plain text unless you explicitly choose to reveal it. The fixed eight dots are a visual placeholder — they do not represent the length of your password.

To see the real value, click the Reveal button. The password will be decrypted and displayed temporarily. It will hide again automatically when you navigate away.

Memo Content Is Not Saving

Symptom: You type content, click Save, but the memo appears blank or shows old content.

Things to try:

  1. Make sure the Content field is not empty — it is required.
  2. Check your internet connection; if the request timed out, the save may not have reached the server.
  3. Refresh the page and check whether the memo was actually saved (sometimes the UI lags but the save succeeded).
  4. If the problem persists, try logging out and back in.

URL / Email / Phone Memos Not Showing as Clickable Links

Symptom: You created a URL, Email, or Phone memo but the value appears as plain text rather than a clickable link.

Fix: Links are only rendered as clickable in the memo detail view (when you open a single memo). On the board overview, memos are shown as compact cards for space efficiency. Click on the card to open the full detail view and use the link from there.
