Getting Started with Memo
Welcome to Memo — your digital sticky-note board! This guide walks you through everything you need to go from zero to capturing ideas in just a few minutes.
Step 1 — Open Memo
Click Memo in the left-hand sidebar. If you don't see it, ask your workspace admin to enable it for your circle.
You'll land on the Memo home screen, which lists all the boards available in your current circle.
Step 2 — Create Your First Board
A board is like a corkboard on your wall — it holds a collection of related sticky notes (memos).
- Click the "New Board" button.
- Give your board a descriptive name, for example:
Work IdeasPersonalResearch LinksProject Alpha
- Click Save.
Your new board appears in the board list, ready to hold memos.
Tip: Think of boards as drawers or folders. One board per project or topic keeps things tidy.
Step 3 — (Optional) Set It as Your Default Board
If you want to capture ideas as fast as possible, mark this board as your default board.
- Open your board.
- Click the "Set as Default" option in the board menu (the three-dot icon or board settings).
- You'll see a small indicator confirming it's now the default.
Your default board is the destination for all Quick Memos — so choose whichever board you use most often.
Step 4 — Add Your First Memo
Now let's put something on the board!
- Open your board (click its name from the home screen).
- Click the "New Memo" button.
- Fill in the memo form:
- Title(optional) — a short label, like "Meeting notes" or "Important link."
- Type — choose what kind of content you're saving (see below).
- Content(required) — the actual note, URL, phone number, etc.
- Click Save.
Your memo appears on the board as a card. That's it!
Step 5 — Choose the Right Memo Type
When creating a memo, the Type field tells Memo how to handle your content:
| Type | Best for | What it does | |------|----------|--------------| | Text | Notes, ideas, reminders | Displays as plain text | | URL | Web links | Turns into a clickable link | | Email | Email addresses | Opens your email client when clicked | | Phone | Phone numbers | Opens your dialler when tapped on mobile | | Address | Physical addresses | Links to a maps app | | Password | Credentials, secrets | Stored encrypted; hidden until you reveal it |
Not sure? Leave it as Text — you can always edit the memo and change the type later.
Quick Memo — The Fastest Way to Capture
Once you've set a default board, the Quick Memo button (the lightning-bolt or "+" icon in the top bar) lets you add a memo without navigating to the board first.
- Click Quick Memo from anywhere in the app.
- Type your content.
- Press Save (or use Ctrl+Enter on your keyboard).
The memo lands directly on your default board. Perfect for capturing a thought before it slips away.
